Text Box: The Society to Increase Mobility, The STIM, is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization focusing on the support of users and potential users of neurotechnology. STIM’s mission is to provide information to and for the users and potential users of neurotechnology and to encourage both the growth and the direction of developments within the neurotechnology industry.
What is Neurotechnology? It is the application of medical electronics to improve or restore function of the human nervous system. The technology crosses a broad range of impairments and is a growing means to treat these conditions or the symptoms associated with them.
After more than two years of user forums, it has become clear that there is an awareness epidemic regarding the availability and treatment methods possible using a range of neurotechnological devices. STIM exists to address this problem.
This awareness problem can be addressed by bringing the disability community, health professionals and the neurotechnology industry together. The STIM has adopted four pillars of service designed to:
Educate with unbiased information to help persons with impairments, their families and care-givers to make better decisions..
Communicate shared experiences of those that are using neurotechnology devices.
Update on the advancements and new developments.
Advocate for persons with impairments to have access to neurotechnology devices.
Together these four pillars of service drive what The STIM is and what it provides.
STIM’s work focuses on people with impairments who currently use neurotechnology and those persons who, in the future, may benefit from the various applications. Aside from the main focus, this approach may interest many ancillary groups such as health care providers, educators, distributors, medical and scientific professionals.
We hope you will find this newsletter and those to follow on a quarterly basis to be informative and educational.
